Lupine "Russel" (mix)
Russell Lupin (mixed colors) - Lupinus polyphyllus.
One of the most spectacular and unpretentious herbaceous perennials. The bushes are upright and sturdy, reaching a height of 90-100 cm, featuring a powerful taproot. The inflorescences are incredibly lush, 30-40 cm long, forming dense spikes in a variety of vibrant shades. These plants are highly winter-hardy and completely undemanding regarding soil fertility – as legumes, they naturally enrich the soil with nitrogen. They develop best in full sun but easily tolerate light partial shade. This colorful mixture is perfectly suited for decorating the back of flower beds, mixed borders, and for cutting. If faded flower spikes are deadheaded in a timely manner, the bushes can produce a second flush of blooms in August.
Seeds are sown directly outdoors in their permanent location as early as possible in April, once the soil can be worked, or before winter in late October. The optimal sowing depth is 2-3 cm. The plant will fully bloom in late May to June of the following year. Moderate watering directly at the base of the plant is recommended. Regular feeding with phosphorus and potassium fertilizers (strictly avoiding nitrogen fertilizers!) ensures the most abundant and prolonged flowering.
